The Legacy of the Montclair NAACP

The Legacy of the Montclair NAACP

The legacy of the Montclair Branch NAACP is one not taken for granted. It was built by the courage and fortitude of those brave men and women who came before us, men and women who thought it not robbery to speak up for freedom, justice, and equality!  We exist to this day as a result of their commitment and strong resolve.  Because we are the beneficiaries of the many sacrifices selflessly committed on our behalf, as Officers, members of the current Executive Committee, as well as those who have joined the ranks of the oldest and largest civil rights organization in the world are compelled to stay focused on civil rights.  In return, we pay it forward just as our ancestors did, nurturing and educating the generations of leaders that will follow us!

Montclair’s NAACP story is deeply intertwined with the town’s history.
During the civil rights movement, members of our branch organized and marched for desegregation, fair housing, and equal education. In the decades that followed, the branch became a hub for advocacy — leading initiatives on community policing, school reform, and civic engagement that continue to shape our town today.

Our legacy is built on the sacrifices and determination of those who refused to be silent in the face of injustice. Today, we honor their courage by continuing their work — striving for equity, inclusion, and opportunity for all.

“We are the beneficiaries of the many sacrifices selflessly committed on our behalf. We exist to pay it forward, nurturing and educating the generations of leaders that will follow us.”
